A dental filling for children restores the tooth to its original shape
Before we place the filling, the decay is first removed completely, using the appropriate method as required to make the treatment as painless as possible. If the decay is left untreated, the bacteria will continue to spread towards the nerve.
Once the decay has been removed, your paediatric dentist will fill the cavity in the tooth. It is important that the filling fits tightly. This restores the child’s tooth to its original shape, which is vital for chewing and biting. We do not use amalgam, which was commonly used in the past, at our paediatric dental practice!

Cement fillings – suitable for milk teeth
Fillings made from what is known as glass ionomer cement are frequently used on milk teeth that are due to fall out soon. The costs are covered by statutory health insurance schemes. This type of cement is relatively close in colour to natural teeth. Over time, however, this filling material darkens slightly. We cure the filling using a UV lamp. We primarily recommend cement fillings for late-stage milk teeth, as they need to be repaired regularly or even replaced.
