Nitrous oxide – pure relaxation during treatment

A particularly gentle method offered by your local paediatric dentist is the virtually pain-free nitrous oxide treatment. During this procedure, the young patient inhales a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide through their nose. We have special nitrous oxide masks for this, which look a bit like clown noses. Depending on their preference, they can choose a mask in their favourite scent: chocolate, strawberry or orange. Once we’ve fitted the young patient with the scented mask of their choice, they breathe in through their nose as normal – and gradually relax. Other positive effects of nitrous oxide include an altered perception of time; it induces a feeling of happiness; it is not metabolised and therefore only takes effect for as long as it is inhaled.
