Sedation for short, painful procedures

Of course, treatment at the dentist can be painful – but it doesn’t have to be! After all, it’s very important to us that our patients enjoy coming to see us regularly so that their teeth stay healthy. If, for example, a tooth is so badly affected that it needs to be extracted, we can make this pain-free using what’s known as sedation. Our anaesthetist gives the young patient a sedative, also known as Dormicum. This makes them drowsy and relaxed.

We then carry out the treatment whilst the child is in a sort of half-sleep, and they are completely unaware of what is happening. This helps us prevent a negative experience from leaving a lasting impression and stop children from developing a fear of the dentist. Whilst our patient is resting in our recovery room, they are looked after by the anaesthetist – and, of course, by their parents, who are allowed to stay by their child’s side throughout the entire procedure.

“What was that?”
Thanks to the sedation, the young patient is unaware of the procedure and cannot remember anything about it.
