The saliva test provides information about a child’s risk of tooth decay!

Saliva Test Munich – How we keep track of the bacteria that cause tooth decay

Saliva in the mouth not only helps to clean the teeth and protect them from acid attacks; it also provides information on whether there is a particular susceptibility to tooth decay or whether decay-causing bacteria, such as lactobacilli and certain streptococci, are already present in the mouth. We often recommend saliva tests even before a patient is fitted with braces, so that we can assess the risk of tooth decay – alongside other criteria such as tooth structure, tooth position and tooth shape – even more accurately.

To determine an individual’s pH level or caries risk, we use saliva tests as indicators. These tests are very simple and provide a meaningful result within a short time. The cost of saliva tests is not covered by statutory health insurance. We would be happy to advise you on this personally.
